Warcraft 3 or World of Warcraft is one of the most successful MMORPGs ever made. In fact, it is so popular amongst certain groups that some researchers have called it addictive. Warcraft is certainly fun, but is it fair to say that it is addictive?
Anything Can Become Addictive
As it turns out, many psychologists believe that practically anything can become addictive. You name it, and some one is addicted to it. That even includes behaviors that we typically think of as healthy, such as exercising and working. Compulsive exercisers basically have an addiction to working out. Part of that is because of the way that exercising affects brain chemistry. When they go a period of time without exercising, i.e. getting a good burst of endorphins, compulsive exercisers can show symptoms of withdrawal.
The Most Addictive MMORPG
The same rush of adrenaline is noted in many MMORPG players. With every victory, the brain releases reward chemicals that encourage players to win again. So, technically, it is possible to become addicted to an MMORPG such as Warcraft 3.
Making a blanket statement that Warcraft 3 is addictive for everyone, however, is just as inaccurate as saying that exercise is addictive for everyone. Gamers should enjoy their pastimes, but games should not become the driving force in their lives. They should serve as fun entertainments that help them occupy their minds and meet new people online.
Warcraft 3 is, in its own way, addictive, and yet most gamers find that they can pursue other activities in life without any withdrawal symptoms. They might legitimately miss the game, but they don’t fret over it. Instead, they do what they need to do and they enjoy Warcraft when they have some free time. There are those who take the game too seriously and become “addicted,” but those people are few and far between. Overall, no one needs to worry about getting addicted to an MMORPG.
